Nick Kyrgios defeats Aryna Sabalenka in Battle of the Sexes style match

Four-time Grand Slam champion Sabalenka showed the emotion she showed during the match, flashing a mischievous smile as she won a point.

“I felt great. I thought I had a great fight. He was struggling, he was really tired,” Sabalenka said afterward.

“I thought it was a great level, I hit a lot of good shots, a lot of movement to the net, shots. I really enjoyed the performance. Next time when I play against him, I already know the tactics, his strengths and weaknesses, and it will definitely be a better game.

“I like to challenge myself and I would love to compete again.”

Critics have questioned Kyrgios’ suitability for the leading man role in the competition after he admitted assaulting his ex-girlfriend in 2021 and made a series of comments deemed misogynistic.

The Australian, ranked 13th in the world at his peak, appeared nonchalant throughout. His movements are limited as he strives to shorten the scoring as much as possible.

He will be delighted to have secured victory in just over an hour as he looks to prepare for a fuller return to the ATP Tour in 2026.

The pair’s friendship appeared genuine, as evidenced by their banter throughout the match, and they shared a friendly embrace at the net.

“Honestly, it was a very tough match and she’s a great player and a great champion,” Kyrgios said.

“I really don’t know what to expect. No matter what role I play, it’s just another good opportunity to get out of here.”
