Liverpool hopes to sign a new striker this summer, Darwin Nunez is expected to end his stay in Anfield. They have links to many high-profile players including Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike, but they may now want to sign a player who has been in trouble in recent seasons.
Isak is Liverpool’s dream goal, but Newcastle is not expected to consider a bid below £150 million, so it will be tricky to reach a deal this summer. They may also miss Ekitike, and they can join Isak at St James Park.
Liverpool Sports Director Richard Hughes has set other goals, which includes another Premier League scorer.
Liverpool contacts Jean-Philippe Mateta agents
According to Foot Mercato, Liverpool is interested in Jean-Philippe Mateta and a connection with his representative has already occurred. The 28-year-old has scored 36 goals with Crystal Palace in the past two seasons and is considered an alternative target for Isak and Ekitike.
However, Liverpool’s signature on Mateta may be just as difficult as other forward targets. Crystal Palace is expected to lose Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi this summer, and if they both leave, there is no reason to consider offering a offer for their star striker.
Mateta has also attracted Man United’s interest in recent months, but it’s not the most fascinating name, but his goal record in recent seasons is undeniable. If they manage to reach a deal, he will certainly be a very effective signing for Liverpool.
But if they do, it’s no surprise to see another striker seeking for it. Diogo Jota’s tragic pass means Liverpool’s depth in the region is short, so there are two number nine signature opportunities.
