Ron MacLean: “You know, on the internet you can see Haha, FYI and OMG, but now it’s AAV per two hours, (average) annual value. So what happened to all the contracts?
NHL injuries: Sabers, Hurricanes, Avs, Panthers, Devils, Rangers, Penguins, Maple Leafs, Jets
Friedman: “Well, the thing is, we all know the salary cap is going to go up, right, Ron? Like everybody knows it’s coming, everybody in the league knows it’s coming, players, coaches. Everybody knows it’s coming, but everybody’s waiting to see what happens in practice.”
The first thing you know when you talk to people now, not just teams but players and agents, is how quickly the world is changing. Go back to (Kirill) Kaprizov on September 30th, when he signed for $17 million per year, and then you look at what’s happened since then; Kyle Connor, Jack Eichel, Luke Hughes.
Like everyone else, I don’t complain about what people do. The value of a person is how much someone is willing to pay you. But I think everyone was shocked at how quickly it happened. How much has changed. Normally, you’d have a summer to deal with it, but these things don’t really start happening until September 30th.
I think the first thing that everyone is worried about in Ron is, what is this going to do to their locker room? Before the Jets signed Conner to a contract that was very different than anything else they’d signed before, they went to some of their top players and said, ‘Would you be okay with it if we did this?’ And they said, ‘Yeah, we need him. We have a chance. let’s do it. ‘
NHL Rumors: Connor Bedard, Carter Hart and Michael McLeod
I think you see that in a lot of locker rooms right now. Coaches are pulling on their players and saying, “If we do this, are you going to be okay?” I feel like some teams are more confident than others that their team is handling this. “
