NHL Rumors: Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens

Erik Karlsson doesn’t have any offseason concerns
Seth Rorabaugh, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Erik Karlsson had 11 goals and 42 assists in 82 games last season, but his turnovers resulted in a lot of fumbles. His two years in Pittsburgh were rough. There was a lot of speculation during the offseason about him potentially being traded.
Carlsen does hold a full no-transfer clause, so any destination would have to be approved by him. Despite much speculation in North America, it’s been a quiet and relaxing summer for Carlsen back in Sweden.
“If things had changed along the way, that would have been the case,” Carlson said. “But … that’s not the case. It was a very quiet summer for me. I’m sure there were a lot of rumors. I’m sure there was some discussion here and there, and that’s normal. But from my perspective, it wasn’t to the point where I had to worry or think about anything.”

“They’re primed and ready to hit their trade targets at any point this season. Montreal is waiting for the market to loosen up. They have the trade assets, they need the cap flexibility, and now they have it. It’s a matter of the right opportunity coming along.”
NHL Rumors: Montreal Canadiens and Ryan Hutson may be close money-wise, but…
Teams may look to transfer players to improve their chances of entering the 2026 NHL Draft Lottery and Gavin McKenna. League sources say the Canadiens view December as the start of trade season.
