F1 legend Fernando Alonso

Fernando Alonso is not only a two-time Formula 1 world champion – he is also a lifelong Real Madrid supporter.
Born in Oviedo, Spain, the racing legend has discovered many occasions in Santiago Bernabéu and has even been appointed as an honorary member of the club. So it naturally made headlines when he suggested that Los Blancos sign a player with his biggest rival Barcelona.
Before the Spanish Grand Prix, Alonso was asked a cheeky but interesting question while talking to Dazn: “If you could sign a Barcelona player to sign for Real Madrid, who would it be?”
Smiling, Alonso gave a playful and strategic answer: “I’ll sign Pedri’s Madrid to weaken Barcelona. I’ll do that on PlayStation too…and leave him on the bench.”
The comment smiled and screamed, catching many people off guard. With Barcelona that just sent Madrid to La Liga, Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup this season, some may wish Alonso would choose stars like Lamine Yamal or Raphinha, who together contributed 102 goals to 102 goals in 2025/26.
But Pedri quietly returned to his best this year – at the heart of Barcelona’s midfield dominance, dictating the pace and controlling the game in a way that evokes legends like Xavi and Iniesta. While he may not be the shiny name on the team table, Pedri is undoubtedly one of their most important people.
So while Alonso’s answer may be joking, it reflects a deeper fact: in order to hurt Barcelona, you took their heartbeat.
