NHL Rumors: Ottawa Senators, Buffalo Sabers, Seattle Kraken

Ideally, the Ottawa Senators could use a middle-six winger

Adam Proto of The Hockey News: As Elliott Friedman noted, the Ottawa Senators are looking to “hit a home run” on the trade market. Their current cap space is approximately $1.475 million, with a projected trade deadline space of $5.12 million. It’s not a huge space, though.

The sellers’ market may be limited right now, and these teams are in no rush — the Calgary Flames, Nashville Predators and St. Louis Blues. The Senators would be better off using a middle-six left winger. The Sens currently do not have a 2026 first-round pick.

Buffalo Sabers may value Alex Tuch at less than $10 million

Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic: As of last week, contract negotiations between the Buffalo Sabers and pending UFA Alex Tuch remained sizable. Don’t believe the Sabers are already at $10 million or more. That’s not to say they won’t get that high at some point. Things remain status quo, but neither side has stopped any negotiations.

Seattle Kraken looking for a top-six forward

fourth period: Last week, David Pagnotta said on DFO Rundown that the Seattle Kraken are looking to make a splash before the trade deadline or next offseason.

“They’re at a point where they want to add, and they do, but they feel like they need to proceed with caution because they have a lot of players who are waiting on unrestricted free agency,” Pagnotta said.

“If this team is going to stay in the playoffs and be part of the wild-card discussion … you just want to make sure it stays on the same trajectory this season. And then you want to add on.”

UFAs for Kraken forwards Jaden Schwartz, Jordan Eberle, Mason Marchment, Eeli Tolvanen and defenseman Jamie Oleksiak have not yet been determined.

The Kraken showed some interest in St. Louis Blues forward Jordan Kyroux in last year’s draft, and the Blues are still listening to calls for him. Kyrou does have a full no-trade clause. It’s unclear who they were looking at.

NHL Rumors: Anaheim Ducks won’t be forced to trade Pavel Mintyukov

Pagnotta added that the Kraken look to add impact and score forward. Ideally, a wing that can play on the first line, at least the top six.

Their current cap space is approximately $2.13 million and is expected to exceed $34.75 million next season.
