NHL Rumors: New Jersey Devils, Vancouver Canucks and Montreal Canadiens

Some Vancouver Canucks trade option for New Jersey Devils not named Quinn Hughes
James Nichols of New Jersey Hockey: The Canucks do have some players who could be options for the New Jersey Devils. The Devils could use some added depth.
Teddy Blueger – Medium – Pending UFA, $1.8 million cap hit. Currently out due to injury, but skating. It could cost a mid-round pick or a Grade B prospect.
Derek Forbort – DT – could add some depth on the blue line and is a more of a stay-at-home guy. Brett Pace and Jonathan Kovacevic remain out. Forbot is also currently injured. The amount of the UFA to be determined is $2 million.
Kiefer Sherwood – Winger – The Devils have some depth on the wing but could use someone with upside, and Sherwood brings that. He can score, too. The pending UFA cap hit is $1.5 million.
The Montreal Canadiens will have some big blueline decisions to make as they continue their search for a top-six pick
Marco D’Amico of RG Media: The Montreal Canadiens added forward Alexander Texil to their roster this week, but they’re not done with the addition just yet.
“It’s not over in Montreal, that’s for sure,” a Western Conference source said. “They’re still looking to add a center or top-six player to the lineup.”
The source added that there is “a lot of chatter” and the Nashville Predators and St. Louis Blues are talking to everyone.
The Canadiens know that if they want to acquire a top-six forward, they’re going to have to give up some players, possibly including a young defenseman. They may be patient with David Linebach and don’t want to sell the former first-round pick low.
Prospect Adam Engstrom has looked good this year and recently earned a call-up. Scouts were so impressed with him that they didn’t know if he was being drafted to showcase him, one source said. They have to make some blueline decisions soon.
(Now that Mike Matheson has re-signed), the Canadiens will have to make some big decisions about who else they want to be with the team long-term. Arber Xhekaj, Jayden Struble, Engstrom and David Reinbacher only have two spots.
