It’s a Central Division matchup between the Chicago Blackhawks and Minnesota Wild in Chicago. This is the first time the two teams have met this season. The Wild have won eight of their past ten games, while the Blackhawks are on a three-game losing streak.

As a result, it looked like both sides would give in, and the Wild continued their winning streak with a 4-3 comeback victory in overtime.

game review

The game started off with a lot of stop-and-go action in the first 10 minutes, with four penalties being called in the first quarter — two against the Blackhawks and two against the Wild. But the Blackhawks came out strong, beating the Wild 20-5. Minnesota goalie Filip Gustafsson stopped some good chances, including those from Connor Bedard and Frank Nazar. The first quarter ended 0-0.

The Blackhawks had no answer in the second period when Yakov Trenin tipped a high penalty kick on Landon Slaggert, but Chicago responded shortly afterwards with a Jason Dickinson shot to make it 1-0. Connor Bedard caught a pass from Sam Rinzel to make it 2-0. Ilya Mikheyev’s free throw put the Wild’s Kirill Kaprizov just inches away, but the puck didn’t quite cross the line. Tyler Bertuzzi then made it 3-0 for the Blackhawks, but it was called offside for an offside call. Still 2-0.

With 13 seconds left in the second period, Brock Faber scored a wild shot to make it 2-1. The Blackhawks’ Louis Krewell then received a delay-of-game penalty with just over three seconds left, giving the Wild momentum to start the third quarter. Chicago’s score was 9-8.

Rookie defenseman Artyom Levshunov scored his first NHL goal to give the Blackhawks a 3-2 lead. Matt Boldy had the answer and the Wild tied the game at 3-3. The Blackhawks had a power-play opportunity late in the third quarter on Jake Middleton’s tripping penalty, but the Blackhawks had no answer and both teams entered overtime. Wild defeated the Eagles 9-8.

Joel Eriksson Ek hit Connor Bedard and Ilya Mikheyev hit Eriksson Ek and was called for interference. In overtime, Kaprizov scored a goal to help the Wild win 4-3.

It was a tight game with two plays and excellent goaltending from Gustafsson and Spencer Knight. Chicago shot 37-24 from the field.
