NHL Rumors: Brendan Shanahan and Steven Stamkos

Brendan Shanahan is currently in the NHL as some NHL teams may consider him

Nick Kepreos of Sportsnet: Brendan Shanahan works in NHL hockey operations, and there’s some speculation as to which team he’ll end up with. The Buffalo Sabers appear to be a team that should be interested, and it sounds like he will consider the Sabers. The Chicago Blackhawks and Nashville Predators are two other teams that could consider him.

This is the final year of Lindy Love’s contract as head coach of the Buffalo Sabers, and it will likely be his last. If he doesn’t retire, he could take on another role within the organization.

Three potential trade destinations for Steven Stamkos if he moves on

Adam Proto of The Hockey News: Steven Stamkos has two years left on his contract and a salary cap hit of $8 million. Things haven’t gone as planned since Stamkos arrived before last season, and the same goes for the Nashville Predators. If this downward spiral continues, the Predators may reach out to Stamkos to see what he wants to do. If both sides decide to explore this trade route, there are three good potential trade destinations.

Carolina Hurricanes – They have over $9 million in cap space and don’t necessarily need to clear salary. But what about moving 25-year-old Andrei Svechnikov and his $7.75 million salary cap hit? He averaged 50 points per game the past two seasons, but got off to a really slow start this year.

Los Angeles Kings – The Kings currently have approximately $8.5 million in cap space before the trade deadline, so they can accommodate Stamkos’ salary. Owns first- and second-round picks for the next three years. Players and/or prospects on the roster can also be moved. They might be able to come up with the best trade package for the Predators.

NHL Rumors: Pavel Zacha and Blake Coleman

Toronto Maple Leafs – He’s from Toronto and could play alongside Auston Matthews and Matthew Nurse. Cap space is an issue for the Maple Leafs as well as the Predators returning. The Preds may have to retain up to $4.25 million. It has to be money making, money losing, and the Leafs need to sweeten the pot. A salary cap increase will allow the Maple Leafs to fulfill their contract after this season.
