“We’ve had a conversation,” Trailing said Thursday. “Unless there is a significant change here, I might describe it and I expect him to enter the market.
“We’ll see. We’ll see where things go.”
With Marner’s possible, they’ll turn around and try to better themselves, but it’s not easy.
“You are working to make your team better and have the potential to lose a really good player,” he continued. “So there are a lot of challenges. But we also try to see it as using these opportunities, right? That’s the job.

There was a lot of conversation between Maple Leaf and John Tavarez. Things are positive, but the deadline is approaching quickly.
“As I think we said at the end of the year, you both expressed a common outcome. That is, John wants to stay, we want to keep John. Like any other contract, there are usually only two small stumbling blocks: terminology and money. Once you get these, things will quickly flow once you get them.
“My hope is that unless otherwise proven, we will get good results there.”
