Columbus Blue Jackets Are Focusing on Goalkeeper Market
Aaron Track and Field: Columbus Blue Jacket General Manager Don Wardle is still looking for a goalkeeper or two. They currently have the Jets and Elvis Merzlikins in the NHL and can handle the NHL’s AHL No. 3 if injured.
Finding goalkeepers who do not require a waiver would be ideal, but it is not easy to find.
“They are very valuable people,” Wardle said. “I’ve talked to all the teams that have these guys and no one wants to give up on these guys. You can understand why.”
A waiver during boot camp may purify someone with a blue jacket. They ranked 13th with exemption priorities. Claiming that someone means they need to put them back into the immunity to reach the AHL.
“We might be forced to carry three goalkeepers that I don’t object to,” Wardle said. “It’s not ideal, but if that’s the best way to get our third goalkeeper, I wouldn’t object.”
