New Jersey Devil and Luke Hughes need to find common ground today and future
James Murphy of RG.org: New Jersey Devils General Manager Tom Fitzgerald said they will continue to talk to RFA defender Luke Hughes and come up with different contract ideas.

He does admit that this is indeed the only leverage these players have. Yes, salary caps will increase in the next few years, but both parties need to find common ground on deals that apply to today and future.

Internal wage cap and trade market
James Murphy of RG.org: We all know that salary caps will rise in the next few years, but some teams will have internal salary caps because not all teams are built like Montreal Canadians, New York Rangers, Toronto Maple Leafs, like New Jersey Devils GM Tom Fitzgerald Nots.
“Not every team has the same automatic revenue, unless they can figure out creative ways to overcome in other areas, they will have internal blocks.”
Fitzgerald said rising wage caps are also affecting the trade market.
“I think the rising cap affects the market because it has become a buyer’s market. The problem is that as more and more teams have space, there are fewer and fewer sellers.”
