National Hockey League: Pittsburgh Penguins forwards Blake Lizotte and Evgeni Malkin have been placed under review with upper-body injuries and were placed on the weekly injured list. Malkin missed Sunday’s game after scoring two goals and an assist in the previous game.
Forward Rickard Rakell skated for the first time since surgery in October. He has missed 19 games.
Adam Kimmelman: San Jose Sharks goaltender Jaroslav Askarov missed last night’s game with an illness, and they don’t know if he’ll be ready for Thursday’s game against Toronto.

Sean Farrell: Tampa Bay Lightning guard Victor Hedman left the game in the first quarter of last night’s game with an undisclosed injury.
“It’s a little concerning, so we’ll re-evaluate him here,” Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper said. “We still have a few games on the road this time. But it’s tough losing the big guy; he’s a big part of our team. So fingers crossed.”
Sportsnet 590 Fan: Nick Kepreos on Toronto Maple Leafs guard Chris Tanev: “They’ll decide if surgery is needed…The belief is that if they do, he won’t miss the rest of the season.”

Lindgren: “The trend with Chucky is positive…Hopefully today, tomorrow he can take some positive steps to potentially get back on the ice. But we’ll see. That will be a TBD.”
TSN: Darren Dreger says Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck will start taking real shots soon. He wants to return this weekend, but the Jets are more cautious.

“So, it’s very, very unlikely that he’ll be back this weekend, but my hope is that he’ll be back in net next week and starting for the Jets.”
