Newcastle is interested in £45million ‘monster’

After the tactical adaptation season, Newcastle United’s summer transfer strategy is now clearly focused on evolution.

The club’s goal is to help transition the team to a progress-based, owned unit-based player.

This shift is more pronounced than in the Department of Defense, where it explores options to support one of their most exciting young talents: Tino Livramento.

Since Southampton arrived, Livramento quickly established himself as one of the outstanding young defenders in the Premier League. His versatility was fully demonstrated in the Carabao Cup final, and despite playing the position on the left, he canceled Mohamed Salah in Mohamed Salah.

He also played a key role in the success of the England U21 European Championship and continued to develop into a modern, thoughtful defender.

Manchester City is reportedly interested, Newcastle is determined to secure his long-term future. The club is said to be preparing a six-year contract that will make him one of their highest earners.

To fully unleash his creativity, Newcastle must work with him to provide a solid platform for players. Their pursuit of new centre-backs seems to be targeting this goal.

Newcastle chases their missing puzzle game

One player who is very suitable for this profile is Marc Guéhi. Captain Crystal Palace is in the final year of his contract and looks unlikely to extend his stay in South London.

After the game, Marc Guehi of Crystal Palace reacted

Last summer, Newcastle refused several bids for the defender, while Tottenham also failed in the January offense.

Liverpool reportedly is reluctant to reach the Palace’s £45m valuation, and Xipies may now have a clearer way to secure his signature. Indeed, according to Givemesport, the player is now keen to leave Selhurst Park.

It was revealed that Newcastle, Liverpool and Spurs all had a “strong” interest in the players.

It may be beneficial that there is already a personal connection. Sky Sports noted that Guéhi was on par with several Newcastle players, namely Anthony Gordon, Livramando and Lewis Hall, who were on the way to Chelsea.

This familiarity can ease his transition and strengthen cohesion within Eddie Howe’s defensive force.

Guehi & Livramento: Future Partnerships

On the court, Guaxi is a model of consistency last season. According to Sofascore, he made 34 appearances, scored 3 goals, and had an average game score of 7.10. Although his numbers in traditional defensive zones such as clearance, tackles and air confrontations are impressive, his technical abilities set him apart.

Marc Guehi's reaction

According to FBREF, Guéhi is one of the most progressive centre-backs in Europe. He hits the ball, the 75th percentile of the switch and the 77th percentile of the cross with a hit rate of 98th percentile. These figures suggest that a defender is not only comfortable under pressure, but also able to initiate a possessive phase.

This made him the ideal companion for Livramento. According to the same data, young defenders already rank in the highest percentage 10 for passing completion, progressive passes and progressive carry, thriving given the freedom to move forward.

With Guéhi providing reliable cover behind him, Livramento will be confident to enter the last third, knowing that any space he evacuated will be managed by a constituent mobile defender.

Valentino-Livramento

In the traditional bottom four, the appearance of Guéhi will provide stability supporting the Livramento offensive run. In five games, Newcastle can deploy Guéhi to the right of the defensive trio, with Livramento as the defender, providing overlapping runs and increasing offensive threats.

Both systems will benefit from the balance and structure brought by Guéhi.

The move will also be consistent with Newcastle’s broader tactical evolution. Hopefully, a deal can be completed for goalkeeper James Trafford, and it’s clear that Howe is building a team that can decide the game.

James-Trafford-Burnley

In the words of palace journalist Bobby Manzi, Guéhi is a “monster” that fits well with his fusion of his defensive discipline and passing range.

Livramento is already one of the best young defenders in the league, but the right partner next to him can help his game reach the next level. Guéhi provides the support needed to achieve this goal.

For Newcastle, it’s more than just a wise recruitment. This will be a long-term investment in a partnership that can define the next phase of its development.
