Newcastle accepts £12m from Sean Longstaff of Leeds

Leeds United appears to have made a major breakthrough in their efforts to sign Sean Longstaff.

Whites have been pushing to snap up the Newcastle United midfielder as they prepare for a return to the Premier League, which is now entering the final year of St James Park’s contract.

On Tuesday morning, Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie (via X) said the Yorkshire club “strongly agreed” to a deal with the 27-year-old boy’s Hippies, and Tyneside has further improved shortly thereafter.

Newcastle accepts £12m Leeds offer from Longstaff

As Lee Ryder reported for Chronicle Live, The St James’ park costume has accepted Leeds’ £12m (a £10m cap and £2m add-ons), and the company is now entering the final year of its current contract.

It is understood that the player is weighing the proposal and if his preference is the club he represents since the age of eight, Newcastle would not have hindered his obstacles.

The midfielder will secure regular game time under Daniel Farke, which he has had with Hippies in recent months.

With Tynesiders about to finish £55m Anthony Elanga, they can open up selling Longstaff, as any fees earned for him will represent pure profits that meet PSR requirements.

Longstaff will provide Leeds midfielder with valuable top experience

The 27-year-old reportedly would rather see his childhood club charge him this summer than next year (track and field), so since Newcastle is all praising the whites’ latest offer, he is likely to accept the proposed relocation.

While the midfielder has barely played in 2025 (his last Premier League match was seven months ago), his top experience (171 games in the division) could be priceless when Farke returns to the top.

The 27-year-old was praised by Eddie Howe for his “drive and stamina” and could add a bite to Leeds in the midfield. According to FBREF, he ranked in the top 5% of the five major European leagues last season (1.92), and in the top 5% (1.92) of the top 11% (3.05) tackles per 90 minutes.

Defensive and offense have been strengthened during the transfer window, and now the side of Elland Road appears to be closing in a rock-fixed recruit in the middle of the park.

It is worth noting that he will be the first newcomer to prove himself a reliable Premier League operator (Lukas Nmecha had only had 14 minutes of alleged suspicion in the department during his time in Manchester), and Farke will undoubtedly place great emphasis on merchandise.

With Newcastle accepting a white offer for Longstaff, it seems like this potential transfer is closer to the outcome.
