New Jersey Devil’s 2024-25 Report Card: Nathan Bastian – Hockey Writer – New Jersey Devil

The New Jersey Devils’ game ended after the 2024-25 season withdrew from the first round of the playoffs in the Carolina Hurricanes. The Devils made a good playoff game, but in the end, all the injuries were in trouble. In the regular season, the Devils have a record of 42-33-7. Each player on the team contributes in a different way, some players perform better than others. Let’s take a look at Nathan Bastian’s 2024-25 season performance.

Bastian’s 2024-25 season with the Devil

In the 2024-25 season, Bastian played 59 games with the Devils and recorded 10 points with four goals and six assists. He scored a minus 4 and recorded 31 minutes. Of his four goals, he scored a power goal and a harsh goal. He spent an average of 10:56 on the ice, 46 seconds more than the 2023-24 season. He has recorded the lowest total shots (44) since he started playing full-time in the NHL.

Bastian started the season with a strong start, recording two assists in his first game against the Buffalo Sabres on October 4. He recorded the main assistance of Nico Hischier’s second-stage goal and gave the only help to Paul Cotter’s empty goal in the final minutes. His first goal was on October 17, and after two games he finished second in the season. To end this month, he recorded an assist on October 30.

November is not a lucky month for Bastian. On November 1, he broke his chin after fighting with Ryan Lomberg at the Calgary Flames. He called 3:29 in total and then walked down the tunnel to assess his injuries. He was placed in a reserve match with a long injury and was eventually activated on December 10. Bastian didn’t record another point until he recorded the assist on January 14. He had a huge momentum at the start of the season, but a jaw injury left him injured. Half of his total this season was recorded in October.

Bastian also played in five playoff games and won an additional 1. He recorded six shots, with an average ice time of 11:36.

Bastian has been with the Devils in the past season

Bastian spent most of his NHL career with the Devils. In the first two seasons of the 2018-19 and 2020-21 league, he played 48 games and recorded 13 points.

Before the 2021-22 season, Seattle Kraken joined the league and the NHL had to host the expansion draft so Seattle had a fair chance. In the expansion draft, they chose Bastian from the devil. He played 12 games for Kraken and scored a goal and received an assist. After the new team stands out, he is exempted and the devil takes him again. He played 60 games and recorded 16 points for the rest of the season.

Over the next two seasons, Bastian played 97 games and recorded 27 points. In 2022-23, he won the best, only positive/minimized/abbreviation, which is 7.

Bastian’s future in the NHL

At the end of the season, Bastian became an unrestricted free agent. He spent July on the market, but on August 9, the Dallas Star signed a one-year contract with an average annual value (AAV) of $775,000.

After some stellar moves, Dallas lacks six strikers from the bottom. Bastian will likely insert one of the six points at the bottom of these stars. From his outstanding performance to the start of the 2024-25 season, he showed a lot of growth. Perhaps Dallas will promote the best environment for him to continue to enhance his skills as a player.

Bastian’s overall results

Overall, Bastian won a C- in the 2024-25 season. He started the season strongly, but after he broke his chin, his performance fell. However, he averaged 2.34 shots per game. He continues to perform better than offense, and for Bastian the rest of the season is what he needs. As Bastian has been at the bottom of the Devils, especially playing after an injury, he can’t get the points the team needs.

Good luck to Bastian in Dallas for the upcoming 2025-26 season.
