NBA Trade Level: Hornets Get Collin Sexton from Jazz – Basketball Insider

The Charlotte Hornets will receive Collin Sexton and a 2031 second-round draft pick from the Utah Jazz Center for center Jusuf Nurkic. ESPN’s Shams Charania first reported.
Sexton gave the Hornets the backfield help they needed side by side with Lamelo Ball. Nurkic will now be the backup help for the starter center Walker Kessler.
Financially speaking, as Sexton and Nurkic enter the last year of their respective transactions, there has not been much change on both sides. Both made about $19 million next season.
This is a very early reaction to how both teams show up in the trade.
Hornets get the necessary ball insurance
Ball was not healthy during most Hornets’ service. So far, he has played with the team for only more than five years and has participated in only 51 games. He has played 36, 22 and 47 games over the past three seasons.
Meanwhile, Sexton has played at least 60 games in five of his seven NBA seasons. He’s more of a combo defender, but as Kon Knueppel adapts to NBA life, he can provide the Hornets in the backcourt.
Brandon Miller’s career also doesn’t have the healthiest start, so Sexton’s solid score output can also improve.

Jazz is more moving forward?
In Utah, the move opened up match time for Isaiah Collier, Keyonte George and newly drafted Walter Clayton Jr.
Why are they willing to give up their stable rotation in Sexton to provide a center with almost no center? Jazz will have to communicate their 2026 first-round draft pick to the Oklahoma City Thunder if they fall outside the top eight. They have good reason to be terrible next season.
John Collins chose the final year of the contract, worth $26.6 million, so he will be the next player to watch.
