British teenager Hannah Klugman suffered a defeat in her WTA proposition debut when she lost to Yulia Putintseva at Nottingham Open.
The 16-year-old finished second in the French Open Women’s Final in May, beating World 27 6-2 6-2 in the first round.
Klugman is one of many senior British juniors who won the 14-year-old Florida’s famous Orange Bowl Junior Championship.
But Putintseva’s quality has improved, with Hazakh winning the Birmingham Classic Championship last year.
“I was very uncomfortable in the first game on the grass for a long time, so I struggled today,” Krugman said.
“It’s a tough guy against top players – I’ve never played with someone like that.
“The crowd is as amazing as the court. I just wish I could play better.”
