Luka Doncic praises JJ Redick for his hopes he will always be the coach

Stabilization in Los Angeles

When Luka Doncic joined the Los Angeles Lakers in February, many wondered how long the superstar would promise in the franchise. These issues quieted down in early August when a three-year contract extension was signed in early August. Now, he holds player choices in 2028 and is expected to refuse to sign a long-term Super Max deal.

Doncic stressed that stability is his greatest excitement about the current direction of the Lakers. On Media Day, he talked about his relationship with head coach JJ Redick.

“I think stability is great,” Doncic said. “It’s great to work with JJ. Hopefully we can work until the end of my career. I just love him as my coach. He’ll tell you anything. He’ll tell you if you’re doing something wrong, if you’re doing it well, if you’re doing it well. Just playing with him, it’s incredible, so I’m so excited that he’s my coach.”

Redick’s extension

The Lakers also doubled their commitment to Redick. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the team gave him a two-year extension, which he linked him to Los Angeles in the 2029-30 season. The decision only lasted just one year during Redick’s NBA head coaching career. Although some analysts questioned the timing of the move, the expanded name Lakers’ belief in his vision.

For Doncic, consistency between players and coaches seems crucial. The 25-year-old defender has proven his ability to thrive under Redick, and his comments show a desire to build a long-term partnership.

Long-term pictures

The Lakers entered training camp with a new optimism. Not only did they have something Doncic committed in the near future, but they also had a coach he obviously trusted. This combination can help the franchise chase the championship while avoiding the instability that has challenged them in recent years.

Redick’s contract is now extended by two seasons, beyond Doncic’s current deal, ensuring organizational continuity even if future negotiations are close. For Lakers fans, the bond between superstars and coaches may be as important as any roster.

As the season begins, Don Sich’s message is clear: he wants to build his career in Los Angeles, and he wants JJ Redick to be with him throughout the process.
