Monte Carlo Masters: Jack Draper withdraws from clay court event

Britain’s Jack Draper has withdrawn from next week’s Monte Carlo Masters as he continues a cautious comeback from an arm injury.

The 24-year-old has not competed at Tour level for six months due to a bruised humerus, but has competed in three events in five weeks since his return to competitive action.

The 2024 US Open semifinalist won on his return in Doha, beating Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals at Indian Wells before losing on his debut at the Miami Open.

Draper said his body is “feeling good” after being defeated by Riley Opelka in Miami, but he also outlined how he needs to continue to be patient as the season progresses over the next eight months.

Draper therefore believes that playing in Monte Carlo on April 5 – an event that graces Europe’s top stars on clay and is one of the most prestigious events on the ATP Tour – would not be a wise move at this stage of his recovery.

Instead, he plans to continue training in London over the coming months, building up his fitness and honing his game.
