Colin Morikawa reflects on the Ryder Cup “chaotic” comment

“I think we took it a little out of context,” Morikawa said. “I think the Ryder Cup should have a lot of energy, right? I think I said this word confusionI didn’t mean to make them rude, right? So, I believe, I should not blame me for the rudeness of others. I guess I mean I want energy, right? You want people to be proud of this country, the country they support. So I don’t think, you know, I say a word, everyone listens, and then-I don’t think I have the ability to do it among people. I think fans can sometimes do what they want to do, say what they want to do. It may have crossed the line. This is not in my group, but it is definitely what people hear. So I want to say, yes, a boundary needs to be drawn. ”

After European teams beat the United States 15-13, McIlroy made a similar point about the type of energy players want in the Ryder Cup and the type of energy that unfortunately achieved at Bespage.

“I think if I were American, I would be angry-I didn’t hear a lot of shouts of support for Scotty today, but I hear a lot of shouts of opposition to me. It’s like the player who supports you. That’s it.”

During an interview Brody MillerDerek Sprague, CEO of the American Professional Golf Association, said he wrote a long letter to the McIlroy, apologizing for what happened and promised to “do better” in the future. He also apologized to McIlroy’s agent Sean Offrahti and said he was “really, really, really disappointed”.

“I don’t think we should accept that in the golf field,” McIlroy said. “I think golf should be at a higher standard than this week. Golf has the ability to unite people. So no, it shouldn’t be acceptable for the Ryder Cup.
