Despite spending a lot of names, Castillo performed well with the Queens time, accounting for 2.35 ERA, 53.3% ground rate, 25.7% strikeout rate and 8.1% walk rate against the Mets in 15 1/3 innings. This represents Castillo’s best Grand Slam since his 2018 rookie season, when he broke into the show with Padres’ 3.29 ERA in the 38 1/3 Relief Bureau.
However, Castillo threw only two MLB innings between the 2019-24 season due to various injuries including Tommy John’s surgery. His baseline figures in New York provide some evidence that the 29-year-old can still work against major league batsmen, even if the Mets see him as a consuming arm.
