Italy opens 2025: Emma Raducanu loses in Rome in fourth round

Emma Raducanu's encouraging Italian Open ended at the last 16, as the world's third-ranked Coco Gauff was so much in class.

Raducanu ranked 49th in the world, losing to the United States on Roman clay, 6-1 6-2 to the United States.

The British won three clay games for the first time in her career to enter the fourth round of the Italian capital.

But any hope that she might have shocked her 21-year-old Goff soon went out.

Like Raducanu in 2021, Gauff's only major win so far came on the hard court at the U.S. Open two years ago, but on Monday, she showed why she's also the power of red dirt.

Gauff, who entered the French Open final three years ago, has recovered from the start and has also penetrated into the service game when needed.

Goff later told Sky Sports: “Emma is a tough opponent regardless of the surface, so I'm happy with my game.”

“My level is getting better every game [reaching the] Madrid [final] It is a step in the right direction.

“Today, I think my forehand is a big weapon that has made me prepare a lot of short balls and a lot of benefits.”
