Mavericks’ Anthony Davis exits Pacers game with ‘calf soreness’

Dallas Mavericks star center Anthony Davis missed the first quarter of Wednesday’s 107-105 home win over the Indiana Pacers with “left calf soreness.”

At halftime, the Mavericks eliminated Davis’ attack and Indiana led 55-52.
According to ESPN reporter Tim McMenamin, Davis stood up carefully after scoring the shot and signaled to the bench that he needed to withdraw from the game.

With 4 minutes and 12 seconds left in the first quarter, the Mavericks called a timeout, and Davis squatted on the sidelines for a few seconds before heading to the locker room for further evaluation.
He had four points, four rebounds and a steal in just six minutes of play.
“He was trying to come back — not want to take any chances,” Mavericks coach Jason Kidd said. “We’ll see how he feels moving forward.”
Davis listed as questionable on pregame injury report
Davis has played at least 32 minutes in each of Dallas’ first four games.
However, he was listed as probable on the pregame injury report due to bilateral Achilles tendinopathy, which causes swelling, irritation and inflammation of the Achilles tendon.
Davis joined Dallas last season as the centerpiece of Luka Doncic’s blockbuster trade and played just nine regular-season games for Dallas.
The 6-foot-10 Davis was recovering from an abdominal injury at the time of the trade and strained his adductor muscle in his debut with Dallas. He missed six weeks due to an adductor injury.
Davis underwent eye surgery over the summer
During the offseason, Davis also underwent surgery to repair a detached retina he suffered late in the 2024-25 season. On April 2, he injured his right eye during Dallas’ 120-118 victory over the Atlanta Hawks.
His teammate Daniel Gafford accidentally elbowed him in the eye. He left the game bleeding and returned with a bandage over his right eye. The cut above his eye required four stitches.
Davis, 32, is now required to wear goggles for the rest of his career.
The Mavericks entered Wednesday’s game without three key rotation players.
All-Star guard Kyrie Irving has no timetable for his return from the torn ACL he suffered in March. Center Daniel Gafford has yet to make his season debut after spraining his ankle in the first practice of training camp, and center Dereck Lively II missed his second straight game with a sprained knee.
The Mavericks host the Detroit Pistons on Saturday.
