Matteo Berrettini withdraws from Australian Open. The Italians announced the news on Saturday.

“I’m really sorry to have to withdraw from the game,” Berrettini said. “I have always loved playing here and feeling the incredible support from you all. Thanks to the fantastic organization of the tournament and I hope to see you all again soon.”

The former PIF ATP No. 6 was scheduled to face sixth-seeded Australian Alex De Minaur in the first round, but will now be replaced by Mackenzie McDonald in the draw. Berrettini reached the semi-finals of the 2022 Australian Open.
