Masyn Winn plays through the torn meniscus

Cardinal Shortstop Masyn Winn His right knee bent plate torn. He will need arthroscopy at some point but will try to do the disease for the rest of the year. Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post and Katie Woo of Track and Field. Gold said Winn had actually been playing for several months.

On the surface, this seems like a strange decision. However, it frames the way that Winn is assured that he is unlikely to make the problem worse by continuing to run there, so there is no risk of exacerbating the problem. Once he walks under the knife, the recovery period is short enough that his 2026 season will not be affected. Even if he delayed the program before the end of the season, he could still stay healthy through spring training.

Since there is nothing to get in the surgery right now and there is no obvious harm in delaying things, he will do his best to help these cards as he wanders around the edge of the playoffs. They are currently 72-74, which gives them 4.5 games in the struggled Mets, who currently have the final National League wildcard.

“I feel like I’m going to credit these guys to end the year,” Winn said. “I definitely don’t want to cash in on that. Technically, we still have a shot (in the playoffs). I want to go there to compete. But I want to do it for my pitchers. Really. I know these guys want me to be in shortstop.

Although he can tolerate pain to some extent, it may still take him a few days. Manager Oli Marmol said of not playing on Tuesday: “One of them is feeling less than others.” “So there is no reason to push it. We have agreed that if it doesn’t feel good enough, then we’ll give him the day.

Winn is excellent in shortstop defense. He was considered to save four defensive runs and exceeded the average 22 outs. The former character put him in the top ten of the guerrillas this year, and the latter character is the best in the Grand Slam.

The offense is impressive. This year, his 91 WRC+ hits .253/.310/.363, down from last year’s .267/.314/.416 line and 104 WRC+. A knee problem may have caused him to retreat. By the end of May, his 123 WRC+ hit .276/.352/.435, but has a .240/.287/.324 line and 73 WRC+ since early June.

After this season, Winn is still under the control of the club. He was not eligible for arbitration until after the 2026 season. Maybe a healthier knee will help him take a step in the set next year, but he is still a valuable player now thanks to his excellent gloves.

When Winn doesn’t play Thomas Saggese In short, it may continue to do so. As Goold and Woo pointed out, some additional infield help is on the way Brendan Donovan and Nolan Arenado The gains on each injury list are close to returns.

One thing not to consider is promoting the prospect of shortstop JJ Wetherholt. He had a lot of numbers in his first 38 three games, but Woo noted that he missed his last five games due to the soreness of non-sting ball disease. Even if he returns to action this week, the cards seem to keep him on the farm. He won’t be eligible for Rule 5 until December 2027, so delaying his promotion means that these cards don’t need to be part of the 40 people this winter.

He dabbled in the second and third bases of minors. Given Winn’s elite defense, maybe Wetherholt will be transferred to one of the future positions. These cards have signed Arenado before 2027, and he is still a good defender, but none of his offenses have met the standards this year. It can be tough to come up with a contract, especially with his no trade clause, so maybe he will be in the hot corner again next year. The second base is a little open. Like Saggese, Donovan and Nolan Gorman There they are mixed together, but they can play other positions.
