Martin Landaluce announced his style at the 2026 Miami Open presented by Itau, as the #NextGenATP star continued his dream run on Tuesday with another major victory.

The 20-year-old Spanish qualifier saved a match point with a dramatic 2-6, 7-6(6), 6-4 victory over local favorite Sebastian Korda to reach the quarter-finals of the ATP Masters 1000 event.

When asked about her thoughts after winning the award, Landalus replied: “My grandmother.” “She [would have been] 101 last week, she died a few months ago. I want to give her victory. “

Landalus arrived in Miami in 2026 without a tour-level win and now has won four in a row, and as world No. 151 he is the lowest-ranked quarterfinalist in the event since World No. 185 Jim Grubb in 1994. The Spaniard is also the first player born in 2006 or later to advance to the quarterfinals of the Masters 1000 event.

Landalus now moves up 48 spots to No. 103 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings and will next face Taylor Fritz or Jiri Lehecka for a semi-final spot.

Korda entered his first Lexus ATP head-to-head meeting with Landalus with confidence after defeating world number one Carlos Alcaraz in the previous round, but the momentum shifted late in the second set. In the tie-break, Landalus came on the court 5/6 behind on match point and hit a clean backhand winner.

“I needed to hit a good shot and I hit the winning shot,” Landalus said of match point. “It’s great to get this feeling. All the Spaniards have tried this. They have that fighting spirit. Ferrero, Ferrer, Nadal, Carlitos… I’ve been looking at this my whole career and I’m here now, so I have to try it.”

The Spaniard then scored two points and jumped to celebrate after equalizing the score. Landalus carried that energy into the deciding set, taking a 3-0 lead and, after a brief slump, regaining control and claiming victory in two hours and 27 minutes.

Korda took two medical timeouts in the third set due to lower back problems, but was unable to halt the Spaniard’s momentum. Now on a six-game winning streak in Miami, including qualifying matches, Landalus hit a career-high in the PIF ATP Rankings on Monday.

The Spaniard trains at the Rafael Nadal Academy and continues to deliver on his promise to earn a place at the Next Generation ATP Finals in Jeddah last December.

“It means everything,” Landalus added. “I played really well this week. I knew I had to do it because there have been incredible players here since the qualifiers. I’m really happy to be here playing with these great players.”

Landalus first came to attention when he won the 2022 US Open men’s championship at the age of 16 and won the ATP Challenger Trophy in 2024 and 2025. Before Miami, he had just two tour-level wins, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index. In this round, he defeated Marcos Giron as well as top 20 players Luciano Darderi and Karen Khachanov.
