Marlin will recall Adam Mazur To start tomorrow night’s game against Philadelphia, manager Clayton McCullough told reporters (including Daniel Álvarez-Montes of El Extrabase). He will object Ranger Suárez In his team debut. Sportsgrid’s Craig Mish first reported that Mazur might get a call. He has entered the 40-man roster, so the Fish only need to do the active roster of the pitchers.
For Mazur, 24, it wasn’t a major league debut. He caught eight times in Padres last summer. The former second-round draft pick struggled with his first view of Major League Baseball batsman, giving up the 7.49 ERA from 33 2/3 innings. At the time, he had only five triple A games as San Diego was forced to call him for injury. Padres chose him back to Triple-A before the trade deadline.
Three days later, Mazur was moving. The Marlins take him as part of their return Tanner Scott and Bryan Hoeing Last July. Mazur has been on optional tasks in Triple-A Jacksonville for much of the calendar year. He struggled eight of eight games last year, but released better numbers this season. Mazur has a 3.62 ERA with a strikeout efficiency of 22.2% and a walking rate of 6.5%. He allowed home runs at higher speeds, but it was a solid performance that could win him the first call from Loandepot Park.
Miami has been running in four-person rotation Sandy Alcantara,,,,, Eury Pérez,,,,, Cal Quantrill and Edward Cabrera. They lost Max Meyer and Ryan Weathers Injured and have been using the bullpen game to handle the fifth starting character. McCullough hasn’t specified whether Mazur will get multiple starts for this recall, but there is reason to think he will get a real rotation sometime this year. Alcantara, Quantrill and possibly Cabrera are all likely to have trade discussions this summer. Quantrill also left tonight’s early leg issues, although McCullough said it was just a cramp (first through the fish’s Isaac Azout).
