Mariners put Logan Gilbert on 15-day IL, planning to choose Logan Evans; Casey Lawrence DFA'D

Sailor puts right-handed Logan Gilbert Today on the list of 15-day injuries, there is flexor muscle pressure on the bent elbow. Additionally, Seattle designated right-handed Casey Lawrence Make assignments and recall right-handed Troy Taylor and left-handed Tayler Saucedo From Triple-A.

Losing Gilbert at any time will be a tough blow for the Mariners. Thankfully, he seems to have avoided the worst. He exited his latest start with an always ominous “forearm density”, M’s anxiety awaits his MRI results. However, his injury has been diagnosed as a grade 1 (also known as mild) strain. According to MLB.com's Daniel Kramer, the right will be shut down for two weeks before reevaluating. Despite no timetable for return, Gilbert seems optimistic. He told reporters (including Kramer) that the injury wasn't “really bad”, and he said he was “better today than I was yesterday.”

Gilbert has been one of the most durable and productive starters in the U.S. league since his debut in May 2021. At that time, his ERA had a strikeout ratio of 3.55 ERA, 3.56 Siera, 4.84, and he tied for first place in the starting Al Pitchers. After he made his first All-Star game last season and won some Cy Young votes, he has performed better than ever in 2025, with an ERA of 2.37 in six games. His 1.87 Siera and 37.6% strikeout rate ranked first among qualified pitchers.

Taylor and Saucedo are reliefists, so Gilbert is not a replacement either. Tonight's match against the Marlins, leaving the two of them in an active roster will only provide manager Dan Wilson with some extra bullpen depth. Instead, when Adam Jude of the Seattle Times reported that the sailors will replace another Logan with another Logan Logan Evans Tomorrow will be his major league debut. Gilbert's rotation is on the turn until Friday's match against the Rangers, and Seattle could theoretically survive the four-player spin until May 6 as Monday and Thursday's days interim.

The Mariners chose Evans later in 2023, but the young Righty took strong numbers in the minor league system. Entering the season, Baseball America ranked him as Seattle's eighth prospect, calling him a “safe No. 3 or 4 starter who should be able to release a strong situation every season.” Athlete's Keith Law also had a similar assessment, ranks 10th in the organization, “But he's at least fourth, I'll bet on any pitcher who has shown that ability to adjust.” His stuff isn't overwhelming, but his arsenal is deep, and his strike and above-average ability to lure the ground should help him deep into the game. In the 2025 Triple-A game, he has 3.86 ERA and 2.90 FIP in 25 2/3 innings.

Lawrence has been DFA twice by the Mariners. After making his first pitch for the Mariners since 2017-18, he returned in 2024 and spent the entire season at Triple-A Tacoma. He made another minor league agreement with the club during the offseason and threw 10 innings in two separate matches in the Grand Slam, giving up 11 runs, but only scored four times at that time. He took over Gilbert on Friday after an early exit and a five-inning loss to the Mariners 8-4. This definitely explains why he is DFA. He couldn't pitch for a few days, and if they left him with him, the sailor's bullpen would be thin. Considering that he has cleared the waiver, been elected as a free agent, and re-signed with Seattle twice this season, it is very likely that it will happen again.
