Ingram apologizes after bottle incident: ‘That was not my intention’

Emotional outburst leads to $25,000 fine

Toronto Raptors forward Brandon Ingram publicly apologized after the NBA fined him $25,000 for accidentally throwing a water bottle that hit a bystander during Saturday’s loss to the Philadelphia 76ers.

The league announced the fine on Monday, saying Ingram “forcibly threw the bottle” to the floor while on the bench. The outbreak resulted in a brief postponement of the game at Wells Fargo Center, but no suspension was issued.

talking sports network After the incident, Ingram explained that his actions were due to frustration after a rough night. “It was just the emotion of the game … the way I played offensively and defensively — just frustration,” he said. “I hope no one else was involved when I did this. Although I apologized numerous times to the kid who got hit in the face with the water bottle, that was not my intention at all.”

Own it and move on

Ingram’s quick apology helped ease tensions following the viral video, which showed the bottle ricocheting off the court and hitting a nearby game attendant. “I was just frustrated during the game,” Ingram added, stressing that he meant no harm and spoke directly to onlookers after the game.

Teammates and team staff reportedly praised Ingram for the way he handled the situation and showed a sense of responsibility both publicly and privately. His reaction stood out in a league that often scrutinizes emotional behavior on the sidelines.

Despite the interference, Ingram finished with 21 points, eight rebounds and five assists in the 130-120 loss. This season, he’s averaging 21.0 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game, continuing to lead Toronto’s offense since being acquired via trade in February.

Raptors continue to focus on court

Head coach Darko Rajakovic and the Raptors are focused on keeping the rhythm intact after this incident. With no suspension, Ingram will continue to play in Toronto’s Nov. 13 game against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

For the Raptors, the message was simple: Emotions happen, but responsibility is important. Ingram’s apology and professionalism afterward helped avert a larger problem — and now the team can turn its attention back to basketball.
