Manchester United is monitoring city star James McAtee

According to the Telegraph, Manchester United is reportedly exploring the possibility of signing Manchester City midfielder James McCart.

The Manchester City star is a versatile player who can play behind the midfielder, winger and striker.

His tactical flexibility may be a significant asset in Amorim's preferred 3-4-2-1 group, providing depth and vitality in the senior midfield role.

The 22-year-old has scored seven goals for the Pep Guardiola team in 25 games in all competitions this season.

McAtee, an England International, found limited opportunities at the Etihad Stadium, and his current contract is only one year away, and the possibility of leaving the city this summer is growing.

Although Guardiola publicly praised McCart's technical skills and offensive intelligence, the City boss may have no choice but to approve the sale to avoid losing players in a free transfer in 2026.

Guardiola described Man City Youngster as a “special player”, but Espanyol could not give him enough time to play at the club.

Manchester United is not alone. Newcastle United, AC Milan, Nottingham Forest and Bayer Leverkusen also reportedly closely monitored McCart's situation.

However, given the competition between Manchester United and human cities, securing Mcatee's signature can be challenging.

City may be reluctant to strengthen its direct competitors and may prefer to sell MCATEE to clubs outside the Premier League, or to compete directly with less direct teams.

Manchester United’s interest seems to be real, but the outcome may depend on the city’s willingness to negotiate with off-road competitors and McCart’s own desire for regular game time and career development.

Manchester Club is also competing in the transfer window this summer, with Guardiola's side winning the match against Amorim to sign Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa.
