Malick Thiaw prepares to complete £35million happies, post-medical mobile

AC Milan Centre-Back reportedly reportedly Malick Thiaw was identified as a Newcastle United player.

In their deadlock with Alexander Isak, Newcastle endured a frustrating summer for the desire to join Liverpool as they prepare for the 2025-26 campaign, where they will play Champions League football for the second time in three seasons.

Although Newcastle completed a £55m move from Nottingham Forest’s Swedish winger Anthony Elanga, they found other difficult deals difficult to complete and missed many goals, especially in the offensive zone. After long-time goalkeeper target James Trafford returned to Manchester City from Burnley, Newcastle hub loaned Aaron Ramsdale from Southampton, with the option to buy.

But they had a success in recruiting Thiaw, with the German centre-back landing on Tyneside on Sunday before taking medical treatment at Newcastle’s training ground on Monday.

He will sign the fees in the £35m area and will address a major issue at Newcastle’s defense centre. Eddie Howe relies heavily on Fabian Schar and Dan Burn, both at 33, due to Sven Botman’s ongoing injury issues.

The arrival of the 24-year-old Thiaw offers Newcastle a longer-term option for the position alongside Botman, 25.

Thiaw joined Milan from Schalke in 2022 and made 85 appearances for Rossoneri, beating the club’s only goal in the Champions League last season.

Massimiliano Allegri was keen to keep Thiaw when he started his second charge of Milan. But before boarding the flight to Newcastle, Thiaw told reporters: “I’m happy with it. I’m ready to play in the Premier League.”

Newcastle is now likely to shift its focus to securing offensive reinforcements, with the Isak legend casting shadows in the transfer window.

A deal with Brentford forward Yoane Wissa is considered close, and although their season starts on Saturday and Isak trains away from the team, it is very likely that Newcastle will face Aston Villa while Anthony Gordon operates in a fake nine-character role.
