Mike Tomlin and Steelers have a plan for WR Roman Wilson

Aaron Rodgers signed a one-year, $13.6 million deal with the Steelers in the offseason. The veteran QB enters his 21st professional season.
The Steelers have a unique wide receiver for the upcoming season. DK Metclaf is undoubtedly WR1. After Metclaf, it is an older player or a younger player who is unproven. These include second-year Pro Roman Wilson. He is the third-round pick in Pittsburgh at the 2024 NFL Draft. Wilson didn’t have any catches in his rookie season, but head coach Mike Tomlin said the Steelers had a Wilson plan this season.

In the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, the Steelers selected WR Roman Wilson from Michigan. He is part of the Wolverine’s 2023 national championship team. In the 2023 season, he led all Michigan skilled position players with 48 catches for 789 yards and 12 catches for touchdowns. As a rookie, Wilson is rarely used by the Steelers.
He only participated in one game and took five snapshots on the field. A season later, Wilson has not yet obtained a pass in the regular season. Additionally, the young WR never competed in the preseason. An injury during training camp in 2024 allowed him to play in the preseason last year. The 24-year-old will fit his first preseason game against the Jaguars on Saturday night.

Recently, head coach Mike Tomlin said the Steelers have an overview of the young WR this season. Tomlin noted that Wilson was “appropriate” and expected this to be performed within his game time. This week, Steelers focused on Wilson’s field production. Next week, they will inject him into a special team. Wilson ran a 4.39 40 yard dash and flashed a blow in college.
Roman Wilson is listed as the third string WR in Pittsburgh’s first official depth chart. DK Metclaf and Calvin Austin are the firsts. Robert Woods and Scotty Miller are the second string, followed by Roman Wilson and Ben Skowronek. Hopefully, it’s time to get a lot of live reps for the Steelers this preseason. He strengthened his work this week in practice, which could translate into live success.
