Maclin Celebrini hat trick leads Sharks to win over Mammoths – Hockey Writer – San Jose Sharks

The San Jose Sharks look to snap a two-game losing streak when they take on the Utah Mammoths at SAP Center on Tuesday night.

The Mammoths enter the game with one win after losing back-to-back overtime losses and five of their past six games.

As his side looked to bounce back, Maclean Celebrini set the tone almost immediately, scoring from a sharp angle on Will Smith’s sneaky cross pass less than two minutes into the game.

Celebrini then scored his second goal of the game less than six minutes after the break, beating Vitek Vanecek with a wrist shot on the blocker’s side.

Despite a total of 3 power play chances and 16 shots in the second game, Jaroslav Askarov and Vanecek closed the door in the middle game to keep the game at 2-0 heading into the second break.

The Mammoths finally broke the deadlock midway through the final period on JJ Peterka’s seventh of the season, setting him up with a nifty cross-ice pass from Lawson Crouse in the neutral zone.

After tying the game, the Mammoths thought they had evened the game. However, after a very questionable goaltender interference call, the referee ruled there was no goal on the ice and upon review there was no goal either.

After a failed challenge, the Mammoths were awarded their 21st consecutive penalty before Peterka’s second goal with less than two minutes left tied the score, with Askarov surely looking to equalize.

The Mammoths had too many men on the ice in overtime, and on the ensuing power play, Celebrini fired a wrist shot over the circle past Vanecek for a hat trick and a 3-2 win.

The win was the first of four games at home for the Sharks. They will face the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday. The loss ended a quick two-game road trip for the Mammoths. They begin a four-game homestand against the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday looking to snap a three-game losing streak.
