Machrie of Scotland – The Top 100 Hidden Worlds Courses You Must Understand

Another place on Islay Island in Scotland is not just any hotel.

The island itself is known as the “Queen of the Hebrides” and the hotel has a sensational location.

The view of the thorny view is everywhere – the peaks, dunes and beaches of rugged noses that extend to the eye, are the cruel beauty beyond the Atlantic Ocean.

There is a wild garden with a Scandinavian hot tub, cold bath and sauna.

There are spa treatments and gyms.

You can hike outdoors, mountain biking, swim wildly and enjoy wildlife.

You can eat Lake Gruinart oysters and Tobermory smoked salmon and drink them from one of the ten whiskey distillers in Islay, including Laphroaig, Bowmore, and Ardbeg (visited).

It has indeed been sold, indeed (rated as Scottish Golf Hotel of 2023/24), but there is also a grand golf course – Macri.

Macri's seventh hole

It is so great that it ranks 78th in the world's top 100 best courses in golf.

It is located on the western coast of Scotland and has a good reputation in this Champions Link course, which is carved on sand dunes and more stunning Herbridan and Atlantic Ocean views.

It was a golf game expected by nature, originally designed by Willie Campbell in 1891, and then updated by DJ Russell in 2018.

When Machrie was acquired by another local hotel group and re-launched in 2024, it introduced a six-hole 3-shot “Wee Course” and Hebrides, a 19-hole social putter course.

Between these three courses, Machrie everyone covers everyone, and there will be three great events line up this year, which enjoys the highest form for the champion golf course.

The competition begins with a social shotgun, with two rounds in two days, and reward practices when arriving.

“Whether you are competing to win or just compete here for world-class golf, amazing Hebrew landscapes and the best events in Islay, these events perfectly blend friendship and competition.”

You can expand your experience by staying in another place (Machrie) and event participants enjoy a 20% discount on accommodation.

Event details:

Macri four-goal champion (Pairs event, 25-27 April 2025, £144)
Machrie Open (Personal Event, supported by Ardnahoe Distillery, 27-29 June 2025, £144pp)
Macri Championship (four-player golf match, 3-5 October 2025, £120pp)
