Luke Donald chose Radwig Oberg,Matt Fitzpatrick, Viktor Hovland, Shane Lowry, Jon Rahm and Sepp Straka As his six captain draft pick, he completed his 12-man European team in New York’s 2025 Ryder Cup.
They join six automatic qualifiers – Tommy Fleetwood, Tyrrell Hatton, Rasmus Højgaard, Robert MacIntyre, Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose – A match against the United States from September 26-28 at Bethpage Black in Farmington, New York.
Sweden’s Austrian Åberg and Straka will debut in Rome’s 16½-11½ victory two years ago.
Norwegian Hovland paired with Scandinavian Aberg in a bankrupt four-man combination with Rome, and he will make his third straight appearance. Like Ireland’s Shane Lowry, like Hovland, he played for Europe in 2021 and 2023.
British Fitzpatrick and Spain’s Rahm are the most experienced people in the captain’s draft, with the previous three appearances. Fitzpatrick put it into practice in 2016, 2021 and 2023, and after his debut in Paris in 2018, Rahm eliminated it four times in a row.
European captain Donald said: “I am very happy to welcome Ludvig, Matt, Viktor, Shane, Jon and Sepp together with our six automatic qualifiers.
“We are a settled and Manchester United team with a strong culture, with 11 of the 12 players who won Rome and an exciting, talented rookie Rasmus Højgaard in our team environment in Rome.
“We also have a lot of experience and it will be very important because we know the challenges waiting for us.
“Although the team itself is similar to Rome, I have started this captain from a very different perspective. Different challenges require different thinking and strategies.
“I’m glad we now have 12 players and we’re all focused on trying to keep the New York Ryder Cup and trying to make history.”
