Billie Jean King Cup 2025: Jasmine Paolini beats the US defending champion 2-0

For Paolini, 2025 did not bring about the level of success with 2024, when she reached two Grand Slam singles finals and won Olympic doubles.

In singles, she quit all four Grand Slams before the quarterfinals, but won the WTA 1000 in Rome in front of a cheerful family crowd. She and her compatriot Sara Errani also won the women’s doubles in the French Open.

But Paolini always shines when she plays for her country – this year is no different.

In a tense opening, there was little to separate her from the world’s seventh pegula, but Paolini saved three breakout points 4-4 before sealing the game after two games.

Pegula threatened to break the Italian in the second game but broke the Italian in the opening game, but from there the Earl appeared, her frustration was trapped in the racket smash and deceived herself between two points.

Paolini competed in the second set and it looked like she won the title 5-1 in the game, but Pegula saved three match points and continued the game.

However, the former Wimbledon and France open runner-up won the next match, winning four of the four games held in Shenzhen this week.
