Texas Tech Basketball expands Grant McCasland to 2030-31

Texas Tech men's basketball coach Grant McCasland has reached a new six-year contract extension that extends the 2030-31 season, the school announced Monday. The school does not issue financial terms for the contract.

In two seasons, McCasland led Texas Tech to a 51-20 overall record, including a 26-12 record in the Big 12, a 30-5 record at home, and a back-to-back appearance in the NCAA Championship.

“Coach McCasland immediately builds on the established success of our men's basketball program and continues to work hard to improve and meet expectations,” said athletic director Kirby Hocutt.

McCasland is the 19th head coach in program history and has the best head coach record in the first two seasons. Two years ago, he was hired for six years on a contract two years ago after serving as head coach of North Texas for six seasons.

Last season, he was also named Werner Ladder Naismith men’s college coaches’ watch list of the year, now in the NCAA head coach’s 262-109 to 11 seasons and is a 206-97 leading NCAA Level I program.

Red Raiders arrived at NCAA Elite Eight last season

Last season, the Red Raiders overall score was 28-9 (15-5 in the Big 12), and scored an NCAA Elite eight-pointer before losing to ultimate national champion Florida.

Texas Tech ranked second in the Big 12 rankings, behind only national runner-up Houston, with the Red Raiders being the only team to beat the Cougars in conference games. Technology ranks eighth in the final Associated Press poll.

In McCasland's first season, the Red Raiders finished 23-11 (11-7 in the Big 12), and ranked third in the 2023-24 season. As the fourth seed in the Big 12 Championship, Tech defeated BYU in the quarterfinals before losing to Houston in the semifinals.

The Red Raiders won a general bid for the NCAA Championship in the sixth seed in the Southern Region, and in the first round they were beaten by NC State.

McCasland will now enter its third season of Tech this summer at the 2025 FIBA ​​U19 World Cup in Lausanne, Switzerland from June 28 to July 6, and will represent the assistant coach of the U.S. U19 national team this summer.
