Jota is only 28 years old and his brother plays for the Portuguese second division party stadium at 25.

Jota married long-time partner Rute Cardoso two weeks ago. They have three children.

Liverpool fans gathered this morning, with many wreaths laying beside the Hillsborough Memorial outside Anfield.

Two former club stalwarts, Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher, also expressed condolences, and Jota’s international teammate Cristiano Ronaldo.

Love in Anfield

Liverpool signed Wolves’ Jota in 2020, and he immediately became a key member of the team, helping Messiside win the FA Cup in 2022. They also finished second in the EFL Cup and Champions League at the time.

Liverpool won the Premier League last season after Jurgen Klopp left and Arne Slot as manager, with Jota contributing nine goals in 37 games.

Jota started at Pacos de Ferreira, where his form won him the relocation of Atletico Madrid. He worked hard to impress the Spanish capital and borrowed back to Porto in his homeland before lending it to Wolves in 2017.

His move to Molineux was permanently achieved in January 2018, and in the middle of a season he scored 17 league goals to push Wolves to advance to the Premier League.

At the international level, Jota scored 14 goals in 49 games, helping them win the National League title again in 2019 and last month. Jota defeated Spain’s free throw in the final with Portugal in the replacement bench.
