LeBron James, Lakers Relations are not in the “best location” now

Los Angeles Lakers superstar Lebron James exercised his $52.6 million player option last month in the 2025-26 season, but rumors continue to make their way around the future of four-time MVPs and gained rumors in purple and gold.

LeBron James, Lakers’ relationship seems to be tense

In an episode of Buha’s Block, Lakers Insider Jovan Buha held a Q&A and gave up the bombshell report to understand the tension between James and the team.

“I mean, I want to be cautious about Brown’s relationship with the front desk or the organization, but I don’t think it’s the best place right now,” Buha said.

James seems willing to leave Los Angeles as the 21st All-Star team will enter his 23rd season.

His agent Rich Paul told ESPN’s Shams Charania that the 40-year-old “will closely monitor the Lakers’ actions and whether to position himself as a championship roster in the offseason.”

James can leave Los Angeles through trade or contract acquisition

If James wants to go out of Los Angeles through trade, he will have to give up his no-trade clause. Another possibility is that the four-time NBA champion convinced the Lakers to buy the contract.

However, according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, a deal at this stage of James’ career is unlikely.

“I would say four days ago that LeBron chose his contract, and I would say he didn’t have a chance to trade. At the time, I just didn’t think so.”

“After talking over the last three to four days, I stopped saying there was no chance. I’m not saying it might be possible, but I can’t responsibly say there is no chance.”

James has a connection with the Mavericks

What makes this story interesting is that the Lakers never announced James’ choice, which is very unusual. The franchise inadvertently does not broadcast his player option decisions are potential red flags.

Buha added: “As you know, there is no official statement about LeBron’s choice. It usually exists – especially for players of that size.”

“Then he had his own stuff on social media or whatever he posted, and obviously he had a statement when he chose to come in.

James has ties to the Dallas Mavericks, but if the Lakers buy out a future Hall of Fame contract, then Western Conference contenders reportedly only have the added superstars to be interested.

According to James’ history with former teammates Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving, Dallas will be a potential landing site, both of whom are the only MAVS players to earn over $20 million next season next season.
