Francisco Lindor undergoes minor elbow surgery

mets shortstop Francisco Lindor He recently underwent minor surgery on his right elbow, according to Andy Martino of The New York Times . The club confirmed the debridement surgery this afternoon. Lindor is expected to be ready for spring training.

The 31-year-old star hit .267/.346/.466 in 160 games this year and posted a 129 wRC+, which ranked fifth among qualified shortstops. Lindor hit 31 home runs and scored 117 runs in 2025, which more or less matched his 2024 totals, while slightly lowering his strikeout rate to 17.9% and raising his walk rate to 8.9%. He continued to be a threat on the bases, tying his career high with 31 stolen bases. His defense is more complex, with Lindor posting a -1 defensive rating (12th among qualified shortstops) but an above-average five outs (tied for 8th), while Statcast lists his range in the 90th percentile. Defensive metrics are finicky, of course, though it appears Lindor is still an average to slightly above-average defender to match his quality offense. All told, Lindor contributed 6.3 fWAR, fourth-most in the majors.

Lindor being ready for spring training is good news for the Mets as they look to bounce back from a disappointing season. At one time, the club held the best record in the major leagues. The momentum didn’t last, however, as the Mets went 38-52 in their final 90 games and 83-79 overall, missing the playoffs due to the Reds’ Game 7 advantage. Offensively, the team posted a 112 wRC+ with Lindor and Juan Soto and Pete Alonso. In terms of pitching, the Mets are not so lucky. Their team’s ERA is 4.04, ranking 18th in the league, and their rotation is also plagued by injuries. although David Peterson and Clay Holmes Pitching over 160 innings per game, Gao Da Xian Jia He missed a month with a strained right hamstring and was ineffective upon his return, leading to his selection in September. Other than those three, no other Mets starter has reached 100 innings.

Heading into 2026, the club will be looking to bounce back behind Lindor, Soto and hopefully improve health through the rotation. Alonso, Starling Mattand the deadline to obtain Cedric Mullins is a free agent, although the Mets will certainly try to resign Alonso. Disappointing results aside, the club did finish second in the NL East behind the Phillies, who also saw some notable players hit free agency, notably Kyle Schwarber. If the Mets can bolster their pitching staff with some acquisitions while producing a similar offensive output to this year, they could pose a more serious threat to the Phillies at the top of the standings in 2026.
