Victor Oladipo joins Bucks G League affiliate

Two-time NBA All-Star Victor Oladipo will join the Wisconsin Herd, the Milwaukee Bucks’ G-League affiliate, ESPN’s Jamal Collier reported Sunday.

NBA insider Jack Fisher reported on Friday that Oladipo has made the G League roster after playing three preseason games with the Chinese Basketball Association’s Guangzhou Long-Lions this fall.
According to Fisher, Oladipo was claimed off waivers by the Santa Cruz Warriors, who subsequently traded Oladipo’s rights to the Bulls in exchange for a 2027 first-round pick in the G League draft.
The 33-year-old Oladipo last appeared in an NBA game in the 2023 playoffs when he was still with the Miami Heat. That April, he tore the patellar tendon in his left knee against the Milwaukee Bucks.

In the 2023 offseason, the Heat traded Oladipo to the Oklahoma City Thunder, who then sent him to the Houston Rockets, who then traded him to the Memphis Grizzlies. In February 2024, he was waived by Memphis.
The 6-foot-3 Oladipo, the second overall pick in the 2013 draft and a graduate of Indiana University-Bloomington, was named the NBA’s Most Improved Player and was named to the NBA All-NBA Third Team and All-Defensive Team in 2018 with the Indiana Pacers.
Injury nearly ended Oladipo’s career
In the 2017-18 season, Oladipo played 75 games with the Pacers, averaging 23.1 points and 2.4 steals per game, as well as 5.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.4 steals per game, setting a career high.
He also received votes for MVP and Defensive Player of the Year that season.
However, multiple knee injuries and a ruptured quadriceps tendon derailed Oladipo’s NBA career. A quadriceps tendon injury remains an issue as the Maryland native returns to action and requires a second surgery in 2021.
Oladipo has played in just 102 NBA games since suffering a quad injury in January 2018. He hasn’t played at least 50 games in a season since breaking out in 2017-18.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Woo, Oladipo impressed scouts during a private workout in Las Vegas in July. Multiple attendees “were impressed, with Oladipo described as being in excellent shape as he seeks another comeback.”
Wu noted that Oladipo’s workouts attracted large crowds, “with a large number of NBA and European teams in attendance.” He reportedly “played a full five-on-five game in a group training session with international professional players.”
