Fangraphs Weekly Mail Bags: September 6, 2025

Hello everyone, welcome to the first mailbag in September. We only have more than three weeks in the regular season and despite the weird playoffs we have, I still have hope for at least one or two exciting playoffs.
Entering Friday night’s game, there are 11 teams (6 in the NL and five in the AL) with more than 90% chances of making the playoffs. The Mariners are 74.2% of the clubs, the only club with a playoff location, and their solid position. Three other teams can still ruin Seattle’s fun: Rangers (12.5%), Royals (10.6%) and Rays (10.2%). On a senior tour team not in a playoff position, the Giants (4.3%) best shooting percentage is grabbing the wildcard berth. But for anyone you cheer for the chaos, the Reds (2.3%) hosted three games this weekend, with the current six seeds being the current six seeds. Cincinnati started the fifth game behind New York.
We won’t answer any questions about today’s playoff game, but we did talk about them among a few players competing for the team. However, before we find them, there are some quick things to do: First, thanks to Meg Rowley for putting it in last week’s mailbag on vacation, I spent baseball in Toronto! My dad and I had never been to the Rogers Center before, so we decided to check out another court on the list. Additionally, Fangraphs is hiring full-time potential writers. For more information, check out the work here. Finally, I would like to remind everyone that although anyone can submit a question, this mailbag is unique to Fangraphs members.
