Davis Cup: Cameron Norrie and Jacob Fearnley lead Britain against Poland

Cameron Norrie and Jacob Fearnley will be the first-choice singles player in the UK’s relegation playoff season in Davis Cup in Poland next week, Jack Draper was unable to get due to injury.

World No. 5 Draper withdrew from the U.S. Open last week before the second round of tie, as an arm injury disrupted his preparation for the game.

Britain will aim to avoid a top relegation from the Davis Cup when facing five-five shots in Gdynia from September 12-13.

Norrie reached the quarterfinals this year at Wimbledon before falling into Carlos Alcaraz and entering the fourth round of Roland Garros, beating Daniil Medvedev and fellow countryman Fearnley.

“Norrie’s year is very, very good, and he’s already starting to make great progress on clay,” said Captain Leon Smith.

“He is in a very good position and is happy to have his own experience and Davis Cup record players on the team.”

Fearnley made his Davis Cup debut in January, Fraights ranked 60th in the world and formerly world No. 4 Kei Nishikori ranked 4th in the world.

The 24-year-old also beat Spanish veteran Roberto Bautista Agut this week to secure his first American public award victory in his career.

“We know his rankings have quickly risen over the past 18 months, and what’s really enjoyable is his excellent performance,” Smith said.

Arthur Fery, 23, was upset in June with the 20th seed Alexei Popyrin at Wimbledon, winning his first Challenger Championship in Colombia this month, which has been included in the team.

World No. 1 doubles Lloyd Glasspool and Julian Cash will also make their UK debut in a relegation tie.

Britain was handed out to the playoffs to be relegated after losing its 2025 Davis Cup first-round tie in February, beating Japan 3-2, with Norry and Draper absent.

Smith’s team must win the first qualifying round of the 2026 tournament and maintain a chance to enter eight teams this year.

“It’s always challenging to get rid of the bonds, and Poland is a strong team,” Smith said.

“We have no fantasy, it will be a tough tie, but I think, with our team, we should be confident and do everything we can to win this important game.”
