Kempe scores overtime winner as Kings defeat Stars 3-2 – The Hockey Writers – Los Angeles Kings

The Los Angeles Kings (3-3-2) defeated the Dallas Stars (3-3-1) 3-2 on Thursday night at American Airlines Center.

Jason Robertson and Wyatt Johnston scored for the Stars. Jake Oettinger made 22 saves.

Corey Perry, Cody Ceci and Adrian Kempe scored for the Kings. Darcy Kuemper made 29 saves.

As the Kings caused chaos on the power play, Perry scooped a loose puck past Oettinger at the top of the crease for the game’s first goal, and Perry’s first of the season.

At 4 minutes and 58 seconds into the second quarter, Robertson scored a powerful goal to tie the score at 1-1. Hintz found Robertson alone over the left faceoff circle, and Robertson screened Kumper.

Less than two minutes later, Ceci scored his first goal of the season with a high shot on his return to Dallas.

At 2:32 of the third quarter, the Stars scored their second power-play goal of the night, tying the score at 2-2. Roope Hintz’s shot bounced off the left side of the penalty area and Johnston fired the puck into the empty net.

Campe was the overtime hero Thursday night, scoring the game-winner off a pass from Quinton Byfield.

The Stars outshot the Kings 31-25 and went 2-for-5 on the power play. The Kings relied on their personnel advantage and made 1 of 3 shots.

Next

The two teams will resume play on Saturday. The Stars will host the Carolina Hurricanes and the Kings will face the Predators in Nashville.
