Katie Boult misses out on Australian Open main draw spot

Former British number one Katie Boult has missed out on a spot in the main draw of the Australian Open.

There are 104 players entered directly into the Melbourne draw, including those with protected rankings, with Bolt currently ranked 106th.

The 29-year-old must now play qualifying for the first Grand Slam of 2026 at Melbourne Park in January.

Bolt had a chance to gain extra ranking points at the WTA 125 Challenge in France last week but chose not to compete after suffering a hip injury in Hong Kong in October.

She told BBC Sport last November that she had to “choose between my body and my ranking” when weighing up whether to compete to improve her ranking.

“If there’s a competition there, it gives you an opportunity because you want to get into the main draw in Australia,” she said at the time.

“I think I know the right choice for me, but it’s difficult because it means everyone else is going to play and pass me.”

Bolt has won just 14 tour-level main draw matches this year and recently split from coach Biljana Veselinovic after a three-year partnership in which she won three WTA titles.

Emma Raducanu, Sonay Kartal and Francesca Jones all went straight into the main draw, along with Jack Draper, Cameron Norrie and Jacob Fearnley.
