Department Overview:
The Amateur Domestic Reconnaissance Department is mainly responsible for improving organizational talent through the draft Rule IV and UDFA signing process. The Amateur Domestic Reconnaissance Department strives to identify, evaluate and evaluate amateur baseball talents through a ruthless commitment to our process and the people. This includes, but is not limited to, creating comprehensive reconnaissance practices, building relationships, leveraging R&D for process support, developing a strong employee education framework, and establishing sound decision-making processes.
Location Overview:
The area scouts oversee the drafting process of players within their designated geographic areas. The role places great emphasis on working with other members of Amateur Operations to collect and validate a wide range of critical information, including but not limited to background details, medical records, performance data and player assessments, all of which are essential for Amateur Scouting efforts. The key responsibility of the scout in the area is to build strong relationships with players, parents, coaches and other relevant resources to ensure the accuracy and depth of the data collected, which is crucial to informing decisions. The ideal candidate should be curious, open, and has excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Responsibilities:
- Collect and verify comprehensive information, including background details, medical records, performance data and other related information, to inform reconnaissance decisions.
- Work with the national coordinator, amateur scouts to align efforts and ensure consistency in reconnaissance practices.
- Travel within designated geographical areas, participate in scouting competitions, participate in events, and meet with key contacts as needed.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with players, parents, coaches and other relevant resources to ensure the accuracy and depth of the collected data.
- Continuously update players’ progress, performance changes and other related factors within designated areas.
- Evaluate talent and submit an assessment of all prospects in the region to prepare for the annual Major League Baseball draft.
- Join videoconferences throughout the year to discuss the prospects of designated areas.

- Understand each assessment area (development, performance, medical care, behavioral health, background, etc.) and be able to concisely capture information that meaningfully interacts with experts (doctors, S&C coaches, analysts, etc.)
