Jalen Williams, Thunder agrees to a 5-year, $240 million extension

Jalen Williams has reached a five-year, $240 million rookie Max Extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder. The deal could be worth as much as $287 million, given the meeting of certain incentives. ESPN’s Shams Charania first reported.

according to sports Kelly Iko, guaranteed all five years. There are no player or team options.

Now, this can fix the Thunder’s “Big Three” for a long-term period. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren have both recently conditioned on their own expansion.

Williams scored a huge third season with the Thunder, averaging 21.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.6 steals. He was named All-Star for the first time in his career and also became the second team on the entire defense. The champion made a sensation for the 23-year-old.

He expects his biggest test in the playoffs to be his two ends. Williams proved himself to be a strong secondary scorer for Gilgeous-Alexander and defended multiple positions on the other end.

Williams’ biggest moment in the spotlight was Game 5 of the NBA Finals. Williams burst out with 40 points, six rebounds and four assists as the series against the Indiana Pacers balanced 2-2.

Now start the clock of the Thunder Champions window

Despite knowing that the team’s three best players are protected, Oklahoma City can rest assured that the window to win has crystallized.

The Thunder will pay a luxury tax as they try to defend their title next season. However, they currently expect a salary of $246 million in 2026-27, which will make them surpass the first and second aprons.

Here, the accumulated draft picks from team president Sam Presti will stand out. He will have to find a way to manage the salary cap around Gilgeous-Alexander, Williams and Holmgren to ensure the window exceeds the 2026-27 season.

Some of that pressure was given a $77 million non-guaranteed contract, and the time came, according to ESPN salary cap expert Bobby Marks.

This is a new era that attracts the latest collective bargaining agreement, where mathematics will be as much talent as there is on hand.
