Jack Draper: England’s number one player and coach James Trotman end partnership after four years

Jack Draper will no longer work with the coach who coached him to the Indian Wells title as James Trotman looks to prioritize time with his family.

The UK number one has hired Jamie Delgado as head coach for next season but has been hoping the man he has enjoyed great success with over the past four years will also take over.

Trotman said it had become increasingly difficult to juggle Draper’s career and family life.

“I’ve decided four years is a great experience,” Trotman told BBC Sport.

“I absolutely love it but it’s becoming increasingly difficult for me to juggle the demands that Jack deserves as a player and as a father and husband.

“I need to start getting my energy levels back and living a more normal life – watching my son play football on Sundays, going on holiday with my family and living a more normal life.”

Trotman said he first spoke to Draper about his future after Wimbledon because he felt physically and mentally exhausted last year.

The two have been training together this week, with the 23-year-old Draper returning to practice after a left arm injury ended his season prematurely.

If the bruise on the arm heals as expected, Trotman will head to San Diego in late November to join Draper and Delgado for some warm-weather workouts.

But after that, he will return to his position as coach of the LTA men’s national team.
