Jabeur starts “step back” from tennis

Ons Jabeur said she will take a step back from tennis because of her health.

WTA announces,,,,, External The Tunisian pulled back from the upcoming Montreal Open on Thursday, adding that the 30-year-old was “the only player to the top 99 not make the U.S. Open next month.”

“I have been pushing myself hard for the past two years, working hard and facing many other challenges,” Jabir wrote in a social media post.

“But, deep down, I’ve been happy in court for a while.

“Tennis is such a beautiful sport. But now I feel it’s time to take a step back and finally put myself first: breathing, healing and rediscovering the joy of simple life.”

Jabeur is ranked higher in the women’s rankings, but has now dropped to No. 71 in the world.

She has been runner-up twice at Wimbledon and she retired this year in the first round of the All England Club as she struggles on the hottest opening day of the game.

“I’m sad, it really didn’t help me, and although it was a very tough season for me, I really didn’t help myself.”

She added that she would take a break, just “trying to be a little disconnected from tennis” and spend time with her family.
